Q.How is the brand of port "cockburns" pronounced? I've been told it's not pronounced the funny way.
A.Cockburns, which was probably originally pronounced "cokeburns", is now pronounced "coh-burns". The company was founded in 1815 in Portugal.
Q.Which way do you pass the port?
A.Traditionally, port is passed to the left, all the way around the table and back to the host. Cockburns, the renowned port producers, confirm this is so.
Q.Does Port go off? I have been given an old bottle of Cockburns which states on the wooden box, its Late Bottle Vintage dated the year of 1986. The same year it was given as a present. Will it have gone off even though its never been opened. Does Port mature?
A.Port does go off. Standard port must be consumed within 1-2 years of purchase. Vintage Port peaks at around 20 years. Check that the seal hasn't broken.
