Q.In the 1914-1915 season Arsenal, having changed their name from Woolwich Arsenal, finished 5th in the old division 2. Then the Great War happened. When the leagues resumed in 1919-1920 arsenal were suddenly promoted how come?
A.Arsenal were controversially promoted to the 1st division in 1919 for their 'long service to league football'. Relegated Chelsea were also promoted.
